Fathima Asla

Fathima Asla was a bright and wonderful young girl. Read her sister Afra's Tribute below.

When I sit down to write this, there are so many beautiful things that I want to say about my sister, Fathima Asla – that I don’t know where to start.

She was 13 years old, and she was killed at the St. Sebastian’s Church in Katuwapitiya on 21st April 2019 at the Easter Attack.

Asla was not only beautiful on the outside, she was a beautiful soul. She always saw the beauty in others. She was someone who took her time forming her own thoughts and opinions about the people and things around her.

Apart from that, Asla was always bright, colorful, creative, and lived life to the fullest. She was a smart student and studied at Negombo South International School. My sister was a Prefect, and moreover, the most wonderful thing about her academic life at school is that from Grade 1 to Grade 8 she secured First Place in her class and was always the Top Student.

She was blessed with so many talents and skills. She was absolutely good at singing, drawing and announcing, and very creative at paper crafts. She was a student with a photographic memory, and her favorite subject was Science which she was really good in.

After she passed away, we received her student report for her final exam, and not surprisingly she was the top student in that year too and was 1st in class!

She always made me feel like I was the coolest older sister.

She was very close to GOD, and she used to spend her free time by praying and talking to God. Amazingly, she drew pictures of Jesus which she saw in her dreams. She even drew a beautiful picture of Jesus just a day before the Attack on Saturday the 20th of April 2019.

We were both together in the Church that day, but she left us. However, I know for sure that she is happy in the Kingdom of God.

God’s garden must be beautiful, because you are there, Asla, and God always takes the best from among us.

Although incredibly difficult, this reminds me not to feel sorrow for her death, but instead to feel grateful that her presence has blessed our lives.

– This Tribute is by Fathima Afra – Sister of Fathima Asla whose precious life we lost at the Easter Attack.
