Mangalika Priyanthi

Mangalika Priyanthi - Tribute by son Hasaru Jayakody
Mangalika Priyanthi was the mother and wife we all need. Read her son's tribute below.

It’s been two years since the Easter attack that struck on the 21st of April 2019. Although I, Hasaru have survived, my beloved mother couldn’t make it.

Her name was Mangalika Priyanthi. My mother was 49 when she passed away and in her years of living, she brought goodness to wherever she was. Typing this ain’t easy, but sit with me and let me tell you more about my mother.

She was born in Sri Lanka, she studied here and worked as a Kindergarten teacher as she loved little children very much. During her teen years her father has passed away, yet she stood strong and to her last day, she smiles whenever she thinks about her father.

After my mother’s marriage, she and my father moved to my soon to be birthplace, Bahrain. Life was not easy for her and us, but she was our beacon, our hope to always keep on going. Despite all hardships we made it through everything.

A year before the Easter bombings was the hardest of all, as my father was terribly ill and I had to be enrolled in a new school. My mother after being hurt by closed ones, her forgiveness came in and a hug drew out despite all the mess going on. She took amazing care of my father, and to quote the words of a doctor she did a better job than the nurses themselves!

There’s just so much to tell about how much of a sweet heart she was! I can’t forget to mention how Holy my mother was too. She loved God with all her heart. When I see my mother pray, I could just see a saint in front of me. She would talk to God as if they were best friends, as her father. It amazes me that a person like this was in front of me the whole time. I wish I.. we had acknowledged all this before she passed away… The least we can do now is to acknowledge her and honor her and pray for her soul.

Although two years have passed, the grief still follows me and my father, but we feel her presence everywhere. To conclude, I can just say my mother is the best person I’ve ever met. A great soul, a loving mother, a loving wife and a wonderful friend. And now a martyr of God.

We love you Ammi.
